P.S Cafe. I'm sure everyone has heard of that name once or twice in their lives. To us teenagers, PS cafe is like the ATAS cafe that we go to every once in a while when there is a special occasion and to working adults and tai tais it's like their usual afternoon high tea spot.
A little over awhile back, i visited the Dempsey Hill outlet but I didn’t get the chance to order the mains and only tried the carrot cake back then.
This time I went to the PS Cafe outlet located at Palais Renaissance. With a classy exterior coupled with a cozy interior, the outlet at Palais Renaissance makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth even before you order their food. The restaurant has two separate sitting areas. Outdoors and indoors. We chose the outdoors because it was relatively crowded in the indoor sitting at the time we visited.
We ordered the Steak Frites ($38) and Chorizo Chilli Hash and Poached Egg ($29) along with their P.S Iced Logan Tea ($9.5). We also chose to top up an additional $5 for the Steak Frites to change the fries to truffle fries. If you order the truffle fries as an ala carte dish, you will be shock at how large the portion size is. It is quite literally a huge mountain of truffle fries that can easily feed 4 - 5 hungry teens. The steak and truffle fries were delicious. The truffle fries which by the way is one of P.S Cafe signature dishes and what P.S Cafe is famous for had just the right amount of truffle flavour and shredded cheese. Being someone who has to order truffle fries whenever I see it on the menu, I have to say P.S Cafe truffle fries is among one of the better tasting truffle fries that I have eaten. The steak was done medium, just the way I ordered it but was a tad bit chewier that I was expecting. The steak sauce was amazing. It reminded me of the garlic butter sauce that comes when you order escargots.
The Chorizo Chilli Hash and Poached Egg was alright. Nothing really stood out about it. It had a spicy tomato sauce base and was filled with mushrooms and by filled I mean FILLED. If you dislike the taste of mushrooms, this is definitely not a dish for you as the taste of mushrooms was pretty overwhelming. It was served with fried potato skin crisps that had a satisfying crunch to it.
The disappointment of the meal came in the form of the longan iced tea. Served with a side of sugar syrup, the longan iced tea tasted just like any regular black tea. The only difference were the longans. I was expecting a stronger Logan taste but there was only a faint taste of longan in the supposed Logan iced tea.
Overall, with great ambience, good service and good food, P.S Cafe is a good place to have catch up sessions with friends and romantic dates with your partner.
